Union City Youth Sports Application

The Union City, NJ Department of Recreation ("we," "us," "our") utilizes the Union City Youth Sports application to manage and facilitate recreational programs. This Content and Media Policy outlines the guidelines for content usage, photography, videography, media distribution, and participant rights.

By registering for or participating in any Union City, NJ Recreation Department programs, all participants, parents, guardians, and attendees acknowledge and agree to this policy.

1. Content Ownership & Rights

The Union City, NJ Recreation Department retains all rights, ownership, and intellectual property related to:

● Program materials, schedules, and promotional content.

● Photography, videography, and other media captured at recreation department events.

● Digital and print marketing materials, including social media posts, brochures, and flyers.

Participants do not have the right to distribute, modify, or commercially use Union City Youth Sports media without explicit written consent.

2. Photography, Videography & Content Use Disclaimer

We may take photographs and/or videos of participants during recreation programs, events, and activities. These images and recordings may be used for public relations, program promotion, and marketing purposes, including but not limited to:

Union City, NJ’s official website

Social media pages (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)

Newsletters, brochures, flyers

Press releases to local media outlets

Television or digital advertising

A. Participation as Implied Consent

By participating in Union City, NJ Recreation Department programs, attendees grant permission for their likeness to be captured and used in any media format. Participation in a public setting may result in inclusion in photos or videos used by Union City, NJ for promotional purposes.

B. Opt-Out Policy

If a participant does not consent to being photographed or filmed, they must:

1. Submit a written request to the Union City Youth Sports at [email protected] before the program begins.

2. Notify program staff at the time of the event to avoid incidental inclusion in photos/videos.

Union City, NJ will make reasonable efforts to honor opt-out requests, but public events may have incidental media exposure.

C. Content Use Restrictions

🚫 Participants, parents, and attendees may not:

● Capture or share media that invades privacy or disrupts the event.

● Use Union City Youth Sports branding, logos, or materials for unauthorized purposes.

● Alter or manipulate official images in a way that misrepresents the program or Union City, NJ.

3. Acceptable & Unacceptable Use of Media

A. Permitted Uses

Personal Use: Participants may take photos/videos of their own child(ren) for personal, non-commercial use.

Sharing on Social Media: Parents and participants may share personal event experiences on their own social media accounts, provided the content does not violate privacy laws or policies.

B. Prohibited Uses

🚫 Unauthorized Recordings: No participant, parent, or spectator may record, distribute, or publish media that invades the privacy of others or disrupts the event.

🚫 Commercial Use: No images, videos, or written content related to Union City, NJ’s recreation programs may be used for commercial gain or promotional purposes without prior written approval.

🚫 Defamation or Misrepresentation: No content (photos, videos, reviews, posts, etc.) may be used to misrepresent or defame Union City, NJ, the Union City Youth Sports, its programs, staff, or participants.

Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in removal from programs, restricted access to facilities, or legal action.

4. Social Media Engagement & Community Guidelines

The Union City, NJ Recreation Department encourages positive and respectful engagement on social media. However, we reserve the right to moderate and remove any content that:

● Contains offensive language, hate speech, or discriminatory remarks.

● Includes false information, rumors, or misleading claims.

● Involves bullying, harassment, or threats against staff, participants, or other community members.

● Advertises or promotes unauthorized businesses, products, or services.

● Participants violating these guidelines may be blocked from official pages, removed from programs, or subject to further action.

5. Privacy & Data Protection

Union City, NJ is committed to protecting participant privacy in accordance with applicable state and federal laws.

● Personal data collected via the Union City Youth Sports application is used solely for program registration, communication, and administration.

● We do not sell or rent personal data to third parties.

● Any media shared publicly does not include sensitive personal information unless explicitly authorized.

6. Violations & Enforcement

Violations of this Content and Media Policy may result in:

1️⃣ Verbal Warning – Issued for minor infractions.

2️⃣ Written Notice – Formal documentation of the violation.

3️⃣ Suspension from Programs – Temporary or permanent removal from recreation programs.

4️⃣ Legal Action – If violations involve privacy breaches, defamation, or misuse of official content.

All reported violations will be reviewed by Union City, NJ’s Union City Youth Sports staff.

Union City, NJ reserves the right to modify or update this policy at any time.

You can register online or in person at Edison School, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
